National Library Singapore

Singapore National Library is located at the 11,304 square meters between Bugis Junction and the Bras Complex in Victoria street
This building there are 16 floors and 2 blocks, this is the development of the old National Library at Stamford Road, which closed on March 31, 2004, the library moved the building on July 22, 2005



HISTORY

The National Library was founded upon the idea of Stamford Raffles, founder of modern Singapore. This library, renamed Hullett Memorial Library in 1923, adjacent to the first school in Singapore, Raffles Institution, and at the location now occupied by Raffles City complex. Then the library moved separately with House Museum in 1887 with the name of Raffles Library as part of the Raffles Museum, before moving to Stamford Road in 1960 the Library was renamed the National Library of Singapore.
As Singapore gained independence in 1965, and as the spread of the country's population to the suburbs, a library, in cooperation with city city planner, was present on the outskirts of town by building a branch library in the majority of new towns built by the Housing and Development Board. This library branches respectively regarded as the physical extension of the original library at Stamford Road, instead of different institutions in their own right, so that the term "National Library" can be said to apply to the original institution and all its affiliates.

Central Lending Library

Lending center in the building located at Basement One with an area 6407 square meters. This library has a collection of more than 200,000 books, and has the largest collection of fiction books on the island. Nearly half the collection is the title of fiction. Have the children and special rooms for events and functions in the library. The library also has a collection of 726 magazines, 74 newspapers and audio book CDs. Landing the Central Library has the largest number of foreign newspaper titles in his collection of newspapers. He also has books Chinese, Malay and Tamil.
